The Met are freezing police recruitment. Only members of the Special Constabulary, currently employed PCSOs and officers transferring in are likely to be recruited for the foreseeable future.

I am sure most will have noted the press stories that the Met have effectively closed their doors to new recruits and now mainly recruit new constables from those who have volunteered and served for a period of time as members of the special constabulary. This effectively means that the training school at Hendon will either be put into mothballs or perhaps even sold off. With conservative estimates that 18,000 police jobs will be lost throughout the country it is ironic that the spending review announced that the cut to the police budget would concentrate on bureaucracy rather than manpower.
