I have a severe to profound hearing loss and have been wearing
hearing aids for over fifteen years. During that time I have experienced
Analogue and Digital devices from both the NHS and Private providers. It
was with great interest that I read the recent articles about the Hearing
Trust, and its founder Mr Kevin Howlett.
The problem with obtaining a useable aid is one of cost, AND more
importantly correct assessment. NHS aids are fine and many people manage
with them, and indeed at first mine were ok, but like so many people
vanity became the better of me and I wanted a more discreet device, so I
turned to the private sector and spent £2500 ( in
1998) for a completely in the canal all singing and all dancing aid which
I was assured would see me out! It did not! in
fact since then I have had four more digital aids all costing the earth.
Many private providers are more interested in profit than
understanding a patient’s needs, their ability as an Audiologist falls
somewhat short of the mark.
I contacted the Hearing Trust by email and within the hour I had
a detailed reply of their services, costs and grant availability. This
was start of an incredible experience. If like me you have your doubts,
you have nothing to lose The Trust does exactly what it says on the
label!
My first appointment was at my home address with Kevin Howlett it lasted about two and half hours during
which time we discussed my hearing loss, day to day problems, my current
aid and expectations. Then I had the most thorough hearing test ever. We
then discussed the options available and his recommendations. There then
followed a visit for impressions another for fitment and two more for
fine tuning, and all this at a fraction of normal costs!
If you have a hearing loss, you really have nothing to lose The
Hearing Trust are understanding, extremely well qualified, efficient and above all provide you
with the best possible solution to an embarrassing problem.
